Exo M: If Only….
If Only….
Chapter 1
You keep your eyes focused on the golden amber leaves falling just outside your open window. Allowing cool autumn air and spice to breathe into the room, sending shivers down your boney spine. Humming quietly to yourself, you enjoying the day, the way you have everyday since you got there. Nothing could break this peace and quiet, except for your consist remind, which ever so soundly beats with the rhythm of your heart.
Knock, Knock.
“Come in,” You reply without looking away from the window.
“How are you doing today?” A lady dress from head to toe in white as she walked up to the heart rate monitor and checked the I.V. drip.
“Fine, Nurse Kim.” Your voice sounded wary.
“Angel, why not go out for a walk today.” she suggested.
“Nurse Kim, You know I’d love to… But today’s treatment took quite a toll on me….” The nurse placed the back of her hand to your forehead.
“By the feel of it, no fever… Slight discoloration of your cheeks… Say ‘Ahhhh’” She said as she placed a popsicle stick in your mouth. ” Pink… Have you eaten today?”
“I really can’t stomach anything…”
“What are we gonna do with you Angel?”
“Nothing more and nothing less.” You grab hold of her hand and gave it a tight squeeze. “I’m fine, truly I am. With a little bit of rest and I’ll be back to my perky self.”
“Darn it Angel, stopping being so cold and let me help you. Be a little more selfish. So many patient come and go. But I haven’t once seen you released.”
You quickly change the subject, since your health is an everyday conversation starter. “So anything new?”
“Nothing really… Oh that really cute boy and his dongsaeng is here to see you again. He’s at the children’s ward right now.”
You felt your eyes widen and your face brighten.
“Wanna go see your little boyfriend?” The nurse remarked with a wink.
You were about to say yes, when you caught a glimpse of your reflection in the windowpane and was remind of just how ghastly you looked. “Actually… I don’t think today is such a good day.”
“Why not?” His voice echo throughout your room, capturing your attention in an instant and making you breathless.
“Kris…” You whispered.
“Hey.” He smiled, as he waltzed in with Tao right on his heels. “Tao say Hi.”
“Hi Noona.” he replied meekly like always.
“Hi Tao, how are you.” you smiled.
“Good… Y-you?”
“I’m doing fine.” you coughed unwilling, but quickly tousled his hair as a sign of reassurance.
“I’m standing right here, yet your ignoring.” You look at Kris.
“Well now you have my full attention.” You say smiling as he drew closer and grab hold of your hand.
“Heard today’s treatment was a bit tough.” he’s face had shift from sweet and charming to concern and worrisome.
“Were you eavesdropping again.” You teased.
“No.” He replied quickly without a wisp of humor in his voice. You sighed heavily, before answering.”Fine it was a bit difficult but they’re all necessary. My surgery is at the end of the month, after all . The doctor need to be able to give my parents some sense of reassurance. The treatments are like test.” He nodded.
“Tao mind leaving us alone for a bit?” he shook his head and left quickly, leaving you and Kris in heavy silence.
“What’s wrong?” you ask, breaking the stiff silence.
“We’re having a event oversea…” He said
“That’s great.” You exclaimed.
“I’m leaving next week and we won’t be back till the week after your surgery…”
“Are you free Sunday?” You catch him of guard.
“Ummm yeah…” he answered puzzled by your question.
“Can you meet me outside at 3? They’re releasing me for a day… And I kind of want to spend it with you…” Somewhere towards the end of that sentence your voice had turn into a meek whisper, and your face became flushed.
“Ok, I’ll be here at 3 on Sunday.” he locked his pinky with yours and stamped your thumb. “Its a promise.”
“Your so childish..” You giggled.
